JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Women’s Tennis took down its arch-rival in convincing fashion on Wednesday afternoon.

Carson-Newman (7-2, 4-0 South Atlantic Conference) took down its rival Tusculum (1-9, 0-5 SAC) after taking a 3-0 lead before TU was able to chop into the deficit eventually just trailing 3-2. However, Sindija Manovska (Riga, Latvia) clinched her match point to win the match 4-2.

“We performed really well today, this was a really good team,” Carson-Newman Women’s Tennis head coach Nathan Gangelhoff said. “That was a really good Tusculum team, we started out with great energy in doubles, and we were able to grind it in singles.”

Manovska’s clinching performance earned Food City Player of the Match honors.

“The energy (from the team) really helped,” Manovska said. “The girls had big support on the third set, and that’s what brought me up.”

The win also continued the stretch of Eagle wins over the Pioneers in Mossy Creek as the Pios have failed to take a dub back to Greenville in any event this academic year.

In singles, Carson-Newman took the first two team points from the No. 3 and No. 6 flights, before Tusculum chopped into the deficit winning the next two points before Manovska’s clincher.
