Williams Places Eighth in Discus at NCAA Nationals, Earns All-American Status

PUEBLO, Colo. – Carson-Newman collected its second All-American of the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

After a stellar season in both the discus throw and shot put events, freshman thrower Oluwatimi Williams (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) earned First Team All-American status with an eighth-place finish at Nationals.

 


 


Williams gained near his top mark of the season on his fifth throw of the event with a mark of 54.37m. He was the 15th-best seed of all athletes competing in the event, surpassing the seeded expectations to finish on the extended All-American podium.

Top-seeded Owen Fraser of Missouri S&T won the event with a distance of 59.29m.

Favour Ekpekpe competed in the 200m dash preliminaries but failed to qualify for the championship heat. He will compete again in Pueblo in the 4x400m relay championship heat on Saturday, May 24, at 7:20 p.m.
