BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the second consecutive week Oluwatimi Williams makes a school record fall.
On short notice, after a cancellation at a meet hosted by Emory & Henry, Carson-Newman made the trip to Bristol, Tenn. to compete in the King University Invitational.
Oluwatimi Williams (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) was the story of Carson-Newman’s quick trip to the Tennessee/Virginia border as he smashed the school record in discus throw by nearly a full meter. Williams set a mark to beat of 54.69m, which broke Trayzel Jureidni-Wyche’s record from 2022.
The mark not only gave Williams the victory at the meet, but also set the fourth-best discus throw at Division II this season, only beaten by Owen Fraser of Missouri S&T, Spencer Helms of Harding, and Brennan Boord of Pittsburg State.
Williams also earned a victory in the shot put, in which he set a school record in just last week at the Lee Invitational, achieving a distance of 16.31m to win the event.
The Eagles also got a win from Brooke Taylor (Knoxville, Tenn.) who set a PR in the women’s 100m preliminary with a 12.50 before smashing through her own PR in the final later in the afternoon with a 12.39 to win the heat, and the event.
Rylan Jordan (Johnson City, Tenn.) took the top of the podium in the men’s 100m in the 16th-fastest time across Division II this season with a 10.32, while Shemar Patten (Portmore, Jamaica) rounded out the podium in third with a time of 10.63.
Tylee Hefney (Dandridge, Tenn.) won the women’s pole vault event clearing a height of 3.05m.
Other podium finishers for Carson-Newman include Noah Ricketts (Blountville, Tenn.) who placed third in the men’s 400m hurdles, Kellie Ivens (White Pine, Tenn.) who set a new PR en route to a second-place finish in the women’s high jump with a height of 1.50m, and Itzel Ayala-Renteria (Athens, Tenn.) placed third in the women’s javelin throw with a distance of 25.83.
Additionally, Brooke Visser and Brooke Taylor placed second and third in the women’s triple jump with distances of 11.38m and 10.84m, respectively.
The Eagles compete as close as they can to home next week on April 4 and 5 at the Tennessee Invite at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.
