AUSTIN, Texas – Carson-Newman beach volleyball player Kat Nelson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® First Team, the organization announced Monday morning.

A biochemistry major, Nelson has earned numerous accolades both on and off the court in 2025. In addition to being named a CSC First Team Academic All-American, she was also honored as the South Atlantic/Coastal Carolinas (SACC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Nelson was also a co-recipient of the SACC Academic Excellence Award, sharing the honor with Katie Willingham of Catawba. She maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA while playing a crucial role in Carson-Newman’s historic 2025 beach volleyball season.
“Kat is beyond deserving of this award and recognition,” said head coach Cat Collins. “Our program is proud of her and all she has accomplished. She is an incredible teammate, athlete, and student.”
One of Nelson’s most memorable moments came alongside partner Addie Smith, when the duo clinched a dramatic victory over Tusculum to secure the Eagles’ first-ever SACC Tournament Championship. Under Nelson’s leadership, Carson-Newman compiled a 25-7 overall record, went undefeated in conference play, and captured the program’s inaugural conference title.
“Kat is one of the hardest-working athletes I have had the privilege of knowing, and she has made a lasting impact on our program,” Collins said. “We couldn’t be prouder!”
