JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – No. 16/9 Carson-Newman (24-7, 13-2 SAC) concludes the month of March with a home conference series as it welcomes UVA Wise (20-13, 9-9 SAC) to the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex for a three-game series this weekend, beginning tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.

Ever since sweeping Emory & Henry in the first South Atlantic Conference series of the yar, C-N has maintained first place for the entire regular season and holds a one-game edge at the top of the standings thanks to a 13-2 record in SAC games. The 13-2 record to start league play is the best 15-game start to a conference season since 1990. It surpasses two previous marks of beginning SAC play 12-3. The record for SAC wins in C-N’s program history is 19, set in 2021.

The only two losses this conference season came in the series opener at Newberry and in the middle game of the series at home with Lincoln Memorial. Carson-Newman has won seven straight conference games, its longest winning streak in league games this season and since 2021.

In 15 conference games this season, Carson-Newman hits .309 as a team and has scored 113 runs. Six hitters have above .300 batting averages in conference play this season. On the flipside, C-N has produced elite pitching in league action this year. The pitching staff has a 2.71 ERA in conference play and has allowed just 37 earned runs to score in 15 games. Among pitchers with multiple appearances, six different pitchers have sub 2.30 ERA’s.

15 of the 24 wins for Carson-Newman this season are at home. In home games this season, the Eagles hit .337 to score 8.5 runs per home game this season. Trey Miller’s .412 batting average leads an offense with eight regular starters that are hitting above .300.

When Carson-Newman scores first, it is 19-0 this season. In 2024, the Eagles won just 10 games when scoring first.

Along with Carson-Newman, UVA Wise has impressed opponents this season by already surpassing its win total from 2024. The Cavaliers are 20-13 this season, reaching the 20-win mark for the first time since 2019 and for just the third time in the past decade. Much of Wise’s success is because of an excellent start to the season. Head coach Brandon Costa’s team won their first nine games of the season, and that quality start carried over into a good start to SAC action.

The Highland Cavaliers started league play 6-2 with series wins over Wingate, Lincoln Memorial and Emory & Henry. After defeating Anderson in a three-game series, Wise began its gauntlet of a league stretch facing the top three teams in the standings in consecutive weekends. They won their first game with Catawba, before dropping the next two in the series and then got swept by Lenoir-Rhyne this past weekend. Wise has lost six of its past seven games entering this weekend’s series.

Four usual starters are hitting above .300 this season for the Cavaliers led by Joshua Morgan’s .339 batting average. He leads the team with 24 RBI and has 17 extra-base hits this season. Eight hitters have at least 14 RBI for a team that averages six runs per game.

Houston Sarvis is the top starting pitcher with his 3.76 earned run average over 38.1 innings in his sophomore season. The right-hander has a team-high 36 strikeouts to just 11 walks. Bo Trantham is the top reliever. In 11 appearances, he sports a 1.72 ERA over 15.2 innings and has not allowed a run over his last four outings.

The three-game home weekend series begins tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. All games will air with a video stream available on FloSports with a subscription. There will also be a free audio stream available courtesy of the Eagle Sports Network on cneagles.com/live.
