CLEVELAND, Tenn. – In the final meet before nationals, Carson-Newman Track and Field had multiple strong performances in the final push to get national qualifiers.
Oluwatimi Williams (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) kept his winning ways going, winning the discus throw with a 54.42m. Williams also placed third in the shot put event.
The Men’s 4x100m team of Rylan Jordan, Amine Kasmi, Favour Ekpekpe, and Dawson Jones won the relay by less than a quarter of a second with a time of 40.31.
Amine Kasmi (Brussels, Belgium) earned second place in the 200m with a time of 21.36.
Other results of note came in the men’s 100m where Dawson Jones placed fourth with a 10.59, while Ekpekpe placed seventh with a new PR in the event of 10.81.
In the men’s hammer throw, Ian Salyer set a new PR en route to a fourth-place finish with a distance of 45.55m.
Elsewhere, in Hickory, N.C. at the LR Last Chance Meet three jumpers took flight trying to earn a qualification to NCAA Nationals.
Sydney McCarty and Brooke Taylor went one-two in the women’s long jump with distances of 5.82m and 5.58m. Taylor also placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.72m.
Carlos Kouassi placed second in the men’s triple jump in his second straight meet on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne, he earned a distance of 14.58m.
The next event on Carson-Newman’s schedule is the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 22 through May 24 in Pueblo, Colo. at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.
