Carson-Newman Picked Fifth and Seventh in SAC Outdoor Poll

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Track and Field has been picked to finish fifth and seventh in the South Atlantic Conference outdoor preseason poll.

Carson-Newman Track and Field saw its men picked to finish fifth in the SAC’s preseason poll for outdoor track and field, while its women were picked to finish seventh.

The men’s poll saw Wingate atop the charts with 12 first-place votes and 144 total points, and Lenoir-Rhyne came in second with one first-place vote and 133 total points. Catawba and Anderson came in third and fourth with 107, and 104 points respectively.

Carson-Newman was just behind in fifth with 102 points, and Tusculum, Limestone, and Mars Hill took sixth through eighth with 86, 80, and 63 points, respectively.

Lincoln Memorial, Newberry, and Emory & Henry took ninth through 11th, while Coker and UVA Wise rounded out the conference’s field.

The Eagles took third place at the SAC Championships indoor competition with help from a first-place finish in the Men’s 200m from Amine Kasmi (Brussels, Belgium).

The women were picked to finish seventh seeing once again Wingate top the poll with 12 first-place votes and 144 points while Lenoir-Rhyne earned one first-place vote with 132 points. Lincoln Memorial, Catawba, and Anderson took spots three through five with 108, 105, and 102 points, respectively.

Tusculum is projected just above C-N at sixth with 98 points, and Carson-Newman comes in seventh with 81 points.

Newberry, Limestone, and Mars Hill rank eighth through tenth, while Emory & Henry, Coker, and UVA Wise round out the women’s poll.

Carson-Newman ends a spot above where it finished the SAC Indoor Championships, where it finished eighth in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the beginning of March.

Carson-Newman Track and Field is back in action in a split-squad event to kick off the outdoor season with part of the team heading to Boone, N.C. for the Mountaineer First Chance meet hosted by Appalachian State University and the other part heads to Cleveland, Tenn. for the Lee Invitational.
