C-N Uses Stellar Second Round and Three in the Top Ten to Close Day One of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in 2nd

SALISBURY, N.C. – Carson-Newman women’s golf used a stellar second round powered by three Eagles in the top ten to finish day one of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in 2nd place at 30-over.

The Eagles shot 30-over in round one but 8-over in round two, the second-best round of any team in the tournament behind only No. 12 Tampa, which carded a 6-over team round.

After day one, C-N has three in the top ten, led by Madison Cline, who sits in 6th at 6-over. In round one, Cline carded a pair of birdies, and despite three bogeys, she shot four pars to enter the back nine at 1-over. Cline had three holes over par on the back nine, but a birdie and five pars helped her end the round at 4-over.

In round two, Cline had a pair of double bogeys and a bogey on the front nine, but a birdie and five pars sent her to the day’s final stretch at 4-over. She carded three consecutive birdies on the back nine, negating an early bogey, and added five pars to take two strokes off and finish the round at 2-over.

Anaelle Picot slid in right behind Cline, finishing the day tied for 7th at 8-over. Picot’s first-round front nine featured three holes over par, but two birdies and four pars helped limit the damage and send her to the back nine at 3-over. Picot added five strokes on four holes over par on the back nine, but five pars helped her finish the round at 8-over.

In round two, Picot matched a pair of bogeys with two birdies and the other five holes at par to enter the back nine at even-par. She carded six pars on the back nine and matched a bogey with a birdie, finishing the round at even-par. Picot’s improved second round moved her up eight spots.

Ida Petersen also made a significant jump between rounds, shooting an 82 in round one before an even-par second round, climbing 14 spots to tie for 9th. Four holes over par hurt Petersen’s tally on the front nine of round one, but a birdie and four pars sent her to the back nine at 5-over. Petersen added five more strokes on three holes over par but carded five straight pars to end the round at 10-over.

Petersen had a stellar front nine in round two, negating a bogey with a birdie and stroking seven pars to enter the back nine at even-par. She picked up where she left off on the back nine, carding a pair of birdies to negate a double bogey, and she stroked the rest of the holes at par to end the round at even-par.

Emery Fisher sits in 17th after day one at 14-over, shooting an 80 in round one before a 78 in round two. Fisher’s day started with five of the first six holes resulting in bogeys, but she birdied late in the front nine and carded the final two holes of the first stretch at par to enter the back nine at 4-over. She added four strokes on four bogeys on the back nine, but five pars helped her finish the round at 8-over.

Parker Miller rounds out the Eagles on day one, sitting in 26th at 23-over, shooting an 82 in round one before an 85 in round two. Seven of the first nine holes were over par for Miller on the front nine, but a birdie and a par helped cut into the tally to send her to the back nine at 8-over. She was consistent on the back nine, carding seven pars while adding just two strokes on a pair of bogeys to finish the round at 10-over.

Miller carded three pars on the front nine in round two, limiting the damage of six holes over par, entering the back nine at 9-over. Miller shot four bogeys on the back nine but carded five pars to finish the round at 13-over.
