JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men’s golf prepares for its second tournament in as many weeks, traveling to Lenoir City for the Tennessee River Rumble at the Windriver Golf Club.
The Eagles are coming off a stellar finish at the Ralph Hargett Invitational, using a team-best round in the tournament’s final round to climb three spots and finish tied for 8th.
C-N used multiple solid individual performances, with Nick Daugherty and Elliot MacGregor making significant climbs following the final round. Daugherty shot up 19 spots after carding a 67 in round three, finishing the event in 10th at 3-under. MacGregor climbed 25 spots to finish 26th, shooting a 68 to finish 26th. Freshman Ian Schoonmaker used an even-par third round, closing the event in 48th.
C-N heads back to the Windriver Golf Club after playing in the same event last season, finishing in 10th. Nick Daugherty and Aidan Powter competed in the event last season, finishing 27th and 68th respectively.
Daugherty used a tournament-best 72-stroke third round to finish 27th, while Powter shot a 78 in the third round to finish the event at 14-over. Daugherty shot a consistent third round, carding 16 of the 18 holes in the final round at par or better. Powter overcame a rocky start with a strong back nine, canceling two bogeys with a pair of birdies to finish the round at 6-over.
The Tennessee River Rumble features a loaded field, with No. 2 North Georgia, No. 4 Lincoln Memorial, No. 6 Grand Valley State, No. 12 Wingate, and No. 19 Lander all competing, providing stellar competition for the Eagles.
Elliot MacGregor, Ian Schoonmaker, Nick Daugherty, Owen Larson, and Stefans Spruzs make up the five for C-N on Monday, a lineup consisting of three freshmen, with Spruzs making his first appearance this spring.
