Hubbard hops to Germany, joins Iserlohn Kangaroos in ProB League

ISERLOHN, Germany – Carson-Newman men’s basketball alum Trey Hubbard has signed a professional contract with the Iserlohn Kangaroos in Germany’s Barmer 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProB. 

“I’m very excited for Trey’s opportunity,” Benson said. “He’s earned the right to play professionally after two outstanding seasons here Carson-Newman with us. I look forward to watching his rookie season from afar.”

Hubbard becomes the 10th men’s basketball player coached by Benson to continue playing basketball at the professional level. He joins John Zhao as the second from this senior class to turn pro.   

 


 


Five other Eagles are actively playing professionally –Zhao (rookie – Puerto Rico, Arecibo de Capitanes), Ben Beeker (rookie – Montenegro, KK Jedinstvo Bijelo Polje), Bryant Thomas (second year – Croatia, GKK Sibenka Sibenik), Grant Teichmann (sixth year – Australia, Townsville Heat) and Ish Sanders (12th year – Slovenia, Skofja Loka).  Antoine Davis (Germany, Canada), Josh Rogers (Israel, England), Charles Clark (Iceland, Brazil) and EJ Bush (Bosnia) have all retired.

Hubbard has averaged 16.7 points per game to go with 4.2 boards and 5.9 assists. He has a pair of 30-point nights this season and his 59.6 percent shooting percentage is the best in the SAC among guards. The senior has handed out five or more assists on 16 occasions this season. He was named the SAC’s player of the week on Feb. 10. He averaged 28 points (with back-to-back 28-point games) and 7.5 assists for the week. Hubbard also added in three boards per game and 2.5 steals per game as well. For the week, he made 67.7 percent of his shots and went 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) from beyond the arc. Hubbard also connected on 10-of-14 free throws. Hubbard has scored 20 points in three straight games for the first time in his career.
