ORLANDO – Carson-Newman’s athletic communications office was recognized four times for its written work in the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators’ Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest.
Adam Greene brought home first place recognition in District Four (comprising schools from Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan) in four categories: athlete profile – college division, event coverage – college division, general feature/blog – college division and historical feature – college division.
“I’ve known what Greene can do behind a camera for a long time, but he also is really versatile as a writer,” Associate AD for Athletic Communications/External Operations Adam Cavalier said. “He agreed a few years ago to help out with football recaps purely so we could get back home quicker returning from road games. We’ve been blessed that he has agreed to expand upon that here of late. His stories are worthy of these awards and tell some great tales we have to tell here at C-N that go beyond the box score.”
Greene’s four wins come from features on former track athlete Maka Charamba’s run through Paris in the Olympics, the volleyball program’s community service efforts helping clean up after Hurricane Helene and a historical perspective on the 40th anniversary of C-N’s second football national title. He also won for event coverage for his recap of the Carson-Newman at Mars Hill football game.
District winners advance to the national ballot, with national winners in each of the seven categories to be announced later this month.
Carson-Newman is the only college division school to win four district honors, joining Valparaiso, Vanderbilt, Colorado State and Nebraska.
CSC members in all eight districts submitted nearly 500 articles in seven categories. All writing had to have an original publish date between January 1-December 31, 2024 to be eligible.
