GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Carson-Newman women’s golf, paced by a top 15 round, sits in 17th following day one of the NCAA DII South Regional at 21-over as a team.
The Eagles are two strokes back of 15th place, No. 20 Palm Beach Atlantic, No. 23 Florida Southern, and four from No. 28 Lincoln Memorial and No. 32 Barry.
Anaelle Picot led the Eagles on day one, delivering a 73-stroke opening round. Picot shot an even-par front nine, carding five pars and two birdies to overcome a pair of bogeys. She carded two bogeys on the back nine, but six pars and a birdie to end the round closed her day at 1-over.
Ida Petersen finished the day tied for 40th, shooting 4-over in round one. Petersen’s day started with a double bogey, but she shot birdies on two of the next five holes and shot par on the other three. Two holes over par added three strokes to her tally, but a late par limited the damage, sending her to the back nine at 3-over. Despite a late bogey, Petersen carded eight of nine holes at par on the back nine, finishing the day at 4-over.
Emery Fisher is tied for 73rd, shooting a 79 in the first round. Four of her first five holes were over par, but she finished the front nine with four consecutive pars, entering the back nine at 5-over. Despite two bogeys, the sophomore stroked seven pars, closing the round at 7-over.
Madison Cline finished the opening round tied for 87th, carding an 81 in round one. She started the day with a pair of bogeys, but seven consecutive pars helped her enter the back nine at 2-over. She added seven strokes on four holes over par, but five pars helped limit the damage to end her round at 9-over.
The Eagles will tee off on the second round of the NCAA DII South Regional tomorrow, with tee times yet to be announced.
