JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – No. 14 Carson-Newman (32-14) begins the final week of the regular season tomorrow afternoon as it visits Emory & Henry (16-30) for a non-conference contest at 3:00 p.m.

The Eagles wrap up a five-game road stretch tomorrow against the Wasps. C-N is 2-2 during this road venture and is 13-9 overall on the road this year.

For the first time ever, Carson-Newman and Emory & Henry will play a midweek non-conference contest. C-N leads the all-time series 8-1, winning all three series played. The Eagles swept a three-game conference series versus the Wasps back on February 14-15. C-N’s first two wins came in 7-0 and 6-1 efforts, before needing a five-run comeback in the sixth inning of the series finale to win 7-6. The Eagles were successful at the plate and with their pitching to sweep the Wasps. The offense hit .333 and struck out just nine times in three games and the pitching staff produced a 2.16 earned run average with 24 strikeouts, allowing just seven runs in the series.

Tuesday’s game will be C-N’s 20th and final non-conference game of the year. The Eagles are 13-6 this season with wins in four of their last six. C-N has won just three out of league road games, but two of those have been over the last two weeks. Both midweek wins the past two weeks have seen Carson-Newman’s offense score 12 runs or more and hold its opponent to six or less runs.

Carson-Newman pitching has held opposing offenses to two runs or less 19 times this season. Over the past two seasons combined, C-N only did that 15 times. It’s the second-most occurrences of holding an opponent to two runs or less in the Tom Griffin era. During the 2008 season, Carson-Newman baseball’s winning season in DII, C-N held opponents to two runs or less 22 times throughout that season that featured a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

C-N will aim to continue its winningest season since 2008. The program’s 32 wins this season are the most in a season since 2008 and the fourth most in a season under Griffin.

Emory & Henry enters the final week of the regular season playing some good baseball. It has won four of its past six games which includes a series win over Mars Hill this past weekend. During this recent stretch, E&H has scored nine or more runs in three of those four wins. Overall, E&H is 16-30 this season and has just a 9-8 record when playing at home this season. It has won five of its last eight home games heading into Tuesday’s matchup.

The Wasps have fared well in midweek contests this year. They have five wins in midweek non-conference games this season and are coming off a high-scoring win versus Concord last Tuesday.

Steven Smith has been raking at the plate this season for E&H, hitting .415 for the year with 32 extra-base hits. His 20 doubles, 11 home runs and 53 RBI are all a team-high. Jacob Bebber and Jared Foley also hit above .300 for the season. Bebber is second on his team with 10 home runs and 49 RBI. Foley is second with 60 hits and has scored 42 runs this season.
